masters of their domains
ICANN is kicking around 10 new proposed top-level domains that might be joining the familiar list (.com, .net, .org) by the end of the year. submissions include .mail to distinguish "legitimate" emailers from spammers, and .xxx to distinguish generic moonshine from name-brand whiskey.

Ad Age, slightly left of center
Advertising Age's completely unbiased look at a recent bush campaign commercial...

Bush Campaign Dead Body Ad
Marketer: Bush/Cheney Campaign
Brand: Bush/Cheney
Title: "Safer, Stronger"
Agency: Maverick Media
Launched by the Bush/Cheney campaign marketing team last week, this ad caused a stir with its use of footage of a flag-draped corpse being removed the rubble of the World Trade Center. Some survivors of 9/11 victims called the use of such an image in a political ad "unconscionable." A New York fireman told the New York Daily News that the advertising strategy was "as sick as people who stole things out of the place" after the attack.

asking for it
i love to see good Web technology (in this case, on-the-fly PDF generation) put to good use.

the “sloganator” at the bush-cheney website allows any user with a slogan (or a grudge) to create custom-made campaign posters featuring the bush-cheney logo. strangely, it appears to reject slogans that include the words dumb, stupid, evil, lying, scum, and iraq. "homophobe" is apparently fine.

but feel free to bypass the filters altogether by entering your slogan in the "city" field instead.

**UPDATE 3/24** b-c ruins everything. they've locked it down so that you can't enter any custom text now - only a state and a coalition group. guess i will have to settle for PUERTO RICO HOME-SCHOOLERS FOR BUSH-CHENEY '04. tee-hee, at least they've mispelled American Samoa in the pulldown menu.

for the ladies
volvo's interesting take on targeted marketing; including a ponytail indent on the headrests and a hood that can only be opened by the manly mitts of your local volvo mechanic.
