ho ho hoprah
oprah sucks. her 2005 list of "favorite things" (meant to send us all into a frenzy of oprah-endorsed holiday spending) came out this week, filled with stuff that only miss O could afford. among the expected diamond watches and designer clothes was a nod to the masses (otherwise known as her audience): a simple tin of popcorn. the kind you buy from your neighbor's kid when he's raising money for new band uniforms. but oprah's popcorn? $117. there better be a sweet prize at the bottom of that tin.

new jack city on the james
cnn.com has just published a story naming richmond among the country's five most dangerous cities (ahead of baltimore, atlanta and new orleans). i've heard of a rash of girl-fights lately, but otherwise it's seemed like business as usual. maybe it's just me, but i have a hard time mentally comparing River City with Motor City, even on a bad day.

cheerioke
just 2 days shy of a full month w/out a post (sorry, loyal fans!), i bring you cheerioke! you might have seen the ads on tv, but the site is definitely worth a visit. it's the creepily cool minds over at oddcast again, using their vhost animated characters - this time for karaoke. you create a character that looks like you, then call a number and sing over the phone. they'll synch your song up with your character, and voila! cheerioke! not sure if it'll make you hungry for cheerios, but still kinda fun. also - a day late, but oddcast has a cool halloween card generator.
