mensa invitational
i've seen previous years' lists before, but just received the latest washington post "mensa invitational" compilation, wherein they take submissions of altered words and publish them. the challenge is to alter an existing word by one letter and give it a new definition. two greats from the current list are "intaxication" (euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with), and "giraffiti" (vandalism spray-painted very, very high). my own contribution: "pretirement" (the delicious period of free time after one job ends, but with full knowlege you'll be back at another job before long).
