become-ing something cool
a cool new twist on regular ol' online shopping sites: www.become.com. it's still in the beta version (and, according to this, will be for a few more weeks), but definitely worth clicking around. its distinguishing feature is the presence of two buttons by the search field that allow you to choose whether you want to research a product or comparison shop for it. (by contrast, if you go to froogle.com and enter in "diamond earrings", you'll get nothing but offers to purchase earrings. if you go to google.com and enter "diamond earrings", you'll get a hodgepodge of retailers, reviewers, and just general mentions of the term.) become.com feels more like a generalized cnet.com (the digital product search site) - a place where you can make an informed decision based on more than just price alone. and check out the "search suggestions" that populate while you're still typing your term.
